0470. The Cross and War Memorial about 1965 showing Horseshoe Cottage with Bradwell's shop on the right of the cross. The shop was run by Mabel Stead the blacksmith’s wife into the 1940s,then Mr Whitehead took over from her. The Wyles family operated a fish and chip shop and a grocery store in it into the early 50's. After them the Holland family took over the shop and finally the Bradwell family. Other shops that have come and gone were Harrimans in Exchange Row on Nether Street, the village hardware shop on the east corner of Stathern Lane and Green Lane, a butchers shop (possibly a bakers) on the south side of Burden Lane, a cake shop in Lilac Cottage at the south end School Lane and a cycle shop at the Old Forge in Boyers Orchard which then developed into a garage.
