0830. Stepping Lane in 1929, The Box Bush, the house built by Daniel Coy when he got married in 1929, now number 5 The Red Causeway. The garden, the trellis, the plants in front of the house, are all in the same condition as photo 0829 which shows the disturbed land from the house newly built. Dan Coy built this bungalow before he and Babs Barlow were married in December 1929. He bought the plot of land, in the corner of her paddock, from Mrs Kemp for £20. The bungalow was bought as a kit consisting of a plan and all the necessary materials. The frame, floors and bottom half of the external wall cladding were timber and the upper walls, internal walls and ceilings were asbestos cement sheeting. The roof slates were also made of asbestos cement. It was built on a brick base with a brick chimney. There was a range of wooden buildings at the back consisting of a washhouse, coal shed and toilet with a two-hole pan closet, all connected to the house by a conservatory. His friend Ernie Dewey, John Dewey's father, built a similar one at Hose at about the same time. Of the people standing in the porch we can only identify Marjorie (Babs) Coy, Dan's wife.
