0848. The Diamond Jubilee of the Hose and Harby Royal British Legion branch July 1987.  Around 200 attended the Sunday afternoon Harby church parade and service which marked the Diamond Jubilee, of the Hose and Harby Royal British Legion branch. Here the Duke of Rutland is taking the salute outside Harby School at the march-past  in which there were 14 standards. John Dewey leads the parade. Among those attending was Mrs Marjorie Brutnell, chairman of the county Legion Ladies' Sections.

It was in March, 1927 when Hose started a sub-branch. However, the members wanted branch status and this was granted in July of that year when ex-servicemen in Harby joined with them. Hose and Harby branch is an active one with close on 80 members. Meetings take place in the Black Horse, Hose, the Red Lion, Stathern, and the Nags Head, Harby. Since the Second World War, membership has fallen and at one time was down to 50. Stathern and Redmile branches have closed, though, and the Hose and Harby branch now has members from there, as well as from Long Clawson, Plungar and Barkeston. The last World War One veteran died a few years ago. The branch president is the local vicar, the Rev John Savige, who conducted the Sunday afternoon service.
