Hi, I'm Squeek.  I live in the Church and this is my web-page. It tells you about the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, here in Harby. Click here to go to the churchyard survey

Church.jpg (89344 bytes) This is a picture of the church. You can click on the picture to see it bigger. And you can buy a card of it at the Post Office. But remember the copyright lies with Photographic Heritage.  And remember I'm a special mouse and my name is spelt with two ees.
St. Mary's Church is situated on the edge of the village looking out over fields towards Langar. It is reached by footpaths from School Lane or the end of Boyers Orchard. Details of services are displayed on the church noticeboard outside the New Rectory on Burden Lane. The Rector is the Rev. Robin Stapleford, 01949  860269, stapleford.robin.d@ukonline.co.uk,  Churchwarden, Roy Booth, 01949 861287.
Have you ever been up into the belfy of the church. Here is a drawing of the bells there by John Bradwell in 1975. Click on the little picture to get the full size view.

BELVOIR TEAM NEWS October - November 2002 volume 3.5

Church Services & Events for the Leicestershire Parishes of the Vale of Belvoir:-

St Mary the Virgin Bottesford with Eastborpe & Normanton - St John the Baptist Muston - St Peter Redmile - St Peter & St Paul Barkestone-le-Vale - St Helen Plungar - St Guthlac Stathern - St Mary the Virgin Harby - St Michael & All Angels Hose - St Remigius Long Clawson.

Meet the Team!

The clergy Team, that is, who are assigned to the Belvoir Team of parishes. The Team in its entirety includes an army of lay parishioners with such roles as Church Wardens, cleaners, flower arrangers, mowers, Church Council members, Family Service leaders, and so the list goes on. But here are the clerically-clad Reverends appointed by our Diocese of Leicester who you are most likely to meet at church on a Sunday.

Team Rector - Revd Charles Bradshaw Charles came to the Belvoir Team in May 1999 from Birstall on the edge of Leicester where he was Vicar. Charles has over 25 years experience as a priest, and the benefit of a great knowledge of international travel and pilgrimage. For instance he is a qualified travel guide in the Holy Land. The title Team Rector means that Charles has overall leadership of the Belvoir Team. Charles lives at the Team Rectory in Bottesford, with his wife Janet on Rutland Lane (heading out towards Grantham opposite the Memorial Garden).

Team Vicar - Revd Robin Stapleford Robin was ordained six years ago in Leicester Cathedral. He came to the Belvoir Team a couple of months after Charles, having served as a Curate in Evington, Leicester. Although Robin is originally from the south, he is delighted to have returned to his ancestral roots in coming to the Framland Deanery, sometimes discovering distant relatives among the parishioners! The title Team Vicar means assisting the Team Rector in priestly duties across the Belvoir Team, especially in the southern part. Robin lives at the Team Vicarage in Harby with his wife Barbara and three children.

Team Curate - Revd Stephen Burnham Stephen was ordained as a deacon and joined us only in June, but is rapidly learning the unusual and exacting skills of being a cleric. Next year Stephen will be ordained priest, when some of his responsibilities will be extended. But during his time in the Belvoir Team (about four years) Stephen is essentially a vicar in training. Stephen and his French wife Nathalie live in the Team Curate's House in Redmile, opposite the church. In addition to the Belvoir Team's three official clergy, we are ably assisted by Revd Simon Shouler in Long Clawson, who fits his priestly role around his full time work as an auctioneer and estate agent. Generous time and help is also given by local retired clergy; Revd Gillian Deave, Revd Douglas Bridge-Collyns, Revd Maurice Richardson. Increasingly lay members of the churches are called upon to lead services, or engage in pastoral work, as for instance highlighted in our last issue in the case of Sue Oldham.
