15 July 2002 email from Don Bateson

Hello All in Harby.

My family and I left Harby in 1969 to live in Australia. I thought I would do a search for Harby and see what came up.

Good job with the site and congrats for keeping it up to date. My Brother returned to England in the 70s and my sister returned in the 80s. My mother and I are the only Batesons left here now.

My Brother is Tim Bateson (Stathern). My sister is Pat Smith (Long Cloursen). Sorry don’t know how to spell that.

My Uncle is Trevor Coy and my Grandmother is Babs Coy.

I have a site about our family in Australia. Needs to be updated though.
It is www.familybateson.freeservers.com

See you around.

25 July 2002 email from Sheila Shoun, nee Harby

I love the web site and enjoy reading the the history.  My name before I married was Harby

I was born in Nottingham and moved to the USA in 1960.  I live in a small town, Cañon City, Colorado, we have no villages in the US.   Our population is much larger than that of Harby.   We have close to 30,000 people here in Cañon City. (Cañon is pronounced as Canyon, it is a Spanish word)   We are well know in Colorado for our prisons.   We have a total of 11 in the surrounding area.  My husband flew for the State of Colorado and transported the convicts. My aunt  was married to my Uncle Tom who is now diseased.   He was the Sheriff of Nottingham I believe in 1981.   People here are very fascinated with the Sheriff and Robin Hood stories.

Most of  my relatives are now deceased and  I have no way to track down any past history.  Is there any information you can give or direct me to to find if we have any  connection with this village. My email is  jgshoun@piopc.net.

Sheila Shoun

The webcaptain replied to her to give two websites. One is a general genealogy one for the United Kingdom www.genuki.org.uk. The other is the Leicestershire and Rutland Family History Society, www.lrfhs.org.uk. Other people may know more.
