6th JUNE 1944 - "D-DAY"
We heard you go all through the night,
A deep throb in the air.
This was "IT", no doubt at all,
The BIG DAY was now here.
From our hay fields we watched you go,
Clear in the morning skies.
Due East to West, and North to South,
Like clouds of butterflies.
A great "Armada" on it's way,
We waved and shed a tear.
But proud as well to see it all,
To stand - and just be there.
The tingling in the blood we felt,
Was shared by all around.
Knowing in strife for death or life,
We stood on common ground.
