HARBY is a parish and village distant 8 miles from Melton Mowbray, and 7 from Bottesford railway station, in the north division of the county, hundred of Framland, union and county court district of Melton Mowbray, • diocese of Peterborough, archdeaconry of Leicester, and rural deanery of Waltham. The church is dedicated to St Mary. The living is a rectory, annual value £536, with residence, in the gift of the Duke of Rutland. The Rev. M. O. Norman is the rector. The Wesleyans have a chapel. There is a National school for boys and girls—Mr Hawkins master, Mrs Hawkins mistress. The parish contains 1981 acres of land, of which the chief owner is the Duke of Rutland, who is also lord of the manor. The population is about 550.
