The position of the water supply through wells and pumps is shown by W and P on the map. The windmill shown on the 1884 map by Langar Bridge has gone, so has the pinfold in Pinfold Lane and the Vale Brewery is disused. New terraced houses have been put up in land plot 157, Exchange Row on Nether Street. Thraves terrace off Main Street in plot 215  and Rutland Terrace  in Green Lane are also new. These new cheap houses are connected with the  28 railway workers and 28 ironstone miners recorded in the 1901 census in a population of 652. The Post Office is marked PO in Watsons Lane.   There are allotments  on the north and east of the village.
