BROWNIES meet in the Village Hall on Mondays.

CHURCHES .

Church of England. St. Mary's Church is situated on the edge of the village looking out over fields towards Langar. It is reached by footpaths from School Lane or the end of Boyers Orchard. Baptist: chapel in Chapel Street, Hose with services at 11 am and 6.15 on Sundays.

The Valley Christian Centre now occupies what was the Methodist Chapel on Main Street. Sunday morning services are at 10.30. They also hold a Tuesday Youth Club, for over 10's, a Wednesday Club for 5-7 year olds, babes & tots on Wednesday mornings, a Jubilee Club for the over 60's on Thursday afternoons and a ladies bible study group. Quaker meetings are held at Bingham at 10.30 am on 3rd Sundays in Friends' homes. Contact the convenor for details. THE PANTOMIME. The Harby pantomime is the highlight of the village social life. Written, produced, performed and hosted entirely by Harby citizens of all ages, it takes place in the Village Hall in January. HARBY JOURNAL. Village news is made available to every household through the monthly publication of the Harby Journal which carries details of meetings, events and items of interest. The Harby Journal is kindly printed by the Parachute School at Langar Airfield. The editor is Leslie Cram, 01949 860557.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH. We are trying to re-launch the Harby Neighbourhood Watch scheme, in order to do this we need volunteers both as co-ordinators and contacts in each street in the village. PARISH COUNCIL Harby does not have a Parish Council of its own but is served by Long Clawson, Hose and Harby Parish Council which meets every month, moving round the villages in turn. The Parish Council also lets the ALLOTMENT GARDENS on Nether Street and Boyers Orchard (The Hunt). Parish Council Clerk, Heather Woodhouse 01664 820024. SCHOOLS . Age 4 - 10 Harby primary school, 01949 860553. Harby Church of England Primary School occupies an interesting listed building on School Lane. It has an attached playground and playing field and has, for many years, provided Harby children with an excellent education. It attracts children from other villages. SPORTS AND SOCIAL ASSOCIATION The Harby Sports and Social Association is an informal group who run events and fund raise to provide for various needs in the village. Contact Phil Smith or Sarah Shipmen, 01949 860874.

VALE CHOIR. Singers enjoy performing with the Vale Choir at various churches in the Vale, contact Colin Newel, 01949 860198.

VALE MUSIC FESTIVAL is held in summer, contact Paul Towns, 01949 861855.

THE VILLAGE HALL is run by a committee who maintain the Hall in good order for users and raise funds for its upkeep. Village Hall bookings secretary Fran Hansford 861835.

The WOMENS INSTITUTE is long established in the village and also serves other local villages. They meet every fourth Thursday evening in the month at the village hall. The President is Pam Lawton. 01949 860207 and the secretary is Sylvia Stafford 01949 860570. The W.l. is an excellent way of meeting new faces as well as enjoying high quality speakers who provide interesting and informative talks on a wide range of topics.
